Macmillan Audio invites you to apply for our in-person New Narrators Event in New York City. This event is designed to bolster NEW Narrators from communities that have historically been less represented in the performing arts. The event will offer an opportunity to experience: director training, recording in studios, Q&A with audiobook producers, plus audio tech and studio advice.

Our goal for this event is to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices! 

This event will give you real, practical and applicable skills you can use for developing a career in audiobook narration. You will receive two edited narration samples that you'll record in studio directed by a Macmillan Audio producer, and you will be invited to join our narrator database for consideration for future Macmillan projects.

This event is free. There are limited places available.

STORYLINE: We are looking for people who have a story to tell about their passions, relationships, family life, a personal epiphany, a funny anecdote, a pivotal or memorable moment that stuck with you, and perhaps when you think about it, [Samsung] technology was involved!

STORY EXAMPLES:

(These are examples, but we are looking for YOUR authentic story)

• You lost your phone, someone found it, tracked you down, and you ended up marrying them.

• Something unique happened while you trained for a marathon, dance competition, or performance of some kind. (Earbuds, smartwatch).

• You watched your favorite movie for the first time with your kid. They hated it!  

• You made a short film with a friend across the country using your laptops and phones.

• You were going through a tough time and playing games, or communicating with friends and family using tech, got you through it.

We all have a story that involves our devices – give it a think, and it will come to you!

YOU:

• love to tell a good story!

• MUST BE A SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS USER (TV, phone, laptop, buds, watch, washer/dryer, stove, vacuums, refrigerator, etc)

• Must have a good archive of photography and video. We will be working with you to compile your existing imagery to tell the story for a mini-documentary of your anecdote.

• Are 18 years old or older. All ethnicities, cultures, and genders.

• Must be available November 20th or 21st for a 1 hour recorded Zoom interview.

• Live in the US.

Auditions for Clybourne Park

Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, NY will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of Clybourne Park, written by Bruce Norris and directed by Kathleen Mahan. Clybourne Park is sometimes tense and sometimes funny, always timely and engaging.

AUDITIONS: Tuesday August 8th, 2023 at 7:00pm and Wednesday August 9th, 2023 at 7:00pm

CALLBACKS: Thursday August 10th, 2023 at 7:00pm (by invitation only)

PERFORMANCES: Friday November 10th, 2023 thru Saturday December 2nd, 2023 (Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with possible Wednesday and Thursdays)

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
Set in 1959 and then 2009, Pulitzer Prize winner Clybourne Park exposes race relations and gentrification in the changing face of a Chicago neighborhood.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: (4 Males, 3 Females)

ACT ONE: 1959

Russ Stoller (White, Male, late 40s to early 50s). Married to Bev. A grieving father with an undercurrent of anger.
Bev Stoller (White, Female, late 40s to early 50s). Married to Russ. A grieving but resilient mother. Cheerful in nature but sometimes clueless.
Francine (Black, Female, 30s). A housekeeper. Tries to be non-confrontational.
Jim (White, Male, late 20s-early 30s). A clergyman. Tries to be a peacemaker.
Albert (Black, Male, 30s). Father. Married to Francine. A nice guy, but with an edge.
Karl (White, Male, 30s). Community representative. Doesn’t want things to change.
Betsy (White, Female, late 20s). Married to Karl. She is deaf, pregnant, and friendly.

ACT TWO: 2009

Tom (played by the actor who plays Jim). Lawyer, neighbor.
Lindsey (played by the actor who plays Betsy). Pregnant. Outspoken, sociable, strong-minded.
Kathy (played by the actor who plays Bev). Lawyer, well intentioned, talkative.
Steve (played by the actor who plays Karl). Married to Lindsey. Supportive husband, blunt.
Lena (played by the actor who plays Francine). Determined, opinionated, charismatic.
Kevin (played by the actor who plays Albert). Married to Lena. Banker. Well educated, affable.
Dan (played by actor who plays Russ). Construction worker, friendly, talkative.
Kenneth (played by actor who plays Jim and Tom). Son of Russ and Bev. Korean War veteran, troubled.

Sides from the script will be made available at the audition. All roles available. Casting is open to all ethnicities and races. Newcomers are especially welcomed.
